Who is the culprit? Unscientific Road Construction or irrational road users?
റോഡിലേക്ക് "കയറി നിൽക്കുന്ന" മരമോ, മരത്തിലേക്ക് കയറി നിൽക്കുന്ന റോഡോ ? (the caption says a tree is encroaching hazardously in to the road, article in Mathrubhumi 24 June 2017).
Every widening project brings the road edge closer to already existing trees and utility posts, and then they are to be blamed. The same applies to utility lines and pipes underground too. This attitude is what's to be changed. why should this tree cause a safety hazard, so long as it is away from the white line marking road edge? there is a hazard marker too; won't it suffice? there is no issue of visibility here too. If it is about pedestrian safety, nothing can be interpreted as the portion behind the tree is not clear in snap. what is the final solution? cut away the tree? if so why crashes happen on wide multi-lane roads? And, how can one travel safely through forest roads like Bandipur with trees flanking the road sides? The word "unscientific" is loosely used in many places without proper forethought. The whole article describes rash and negligent driving, by the way. If the curves are dangerous on MC road, what about the hairpins on ghat roads? So, at the end of the day, it is human behaviour that matters. The issue is applicable to city too. Such issues are to be tackled carefully, if we really want a smart city here.
